Saving Money on Car Insurance

Comments Off on Saving Money on Car Insurance

Hey everyone.  In this post I just wanted to talk about saving money on car insurance.  I think that sometimes this is overlooked, particularly by young people like myself.  I wanted to take some time to speak about my own personal experience saving money on car insurance.

saving money on insurance 1

You see, when I first got car insurance, all I was thinking about was how I could save as much money as possible.  I got car insurance through my dad and brother’s insurance agent, Salim.  He was a really friendly guy and I was more than happy to support him.  At the time, my priority was to just get car insurance because it was a requirement.  I wanted to just get liability insurance but ended up getting full coverage after Salim sold me on the idea.

I ended up having to pay about $103 per month.  Eventually I became more and more broke (long story…I won’t get into that now), so I decided to opt out of the full coverage option which then dropped my insurance down to $75 per month or so.  That way I could save an extra $25+ per month or so and purchase stuff like muscle supplements, vitamins, energy drinks, Ramen, and other random stuff that I was buying at that time.  About a year later my car’s engine ended up blowing up and I ended up taking the insurance off.  After my car ended up being a total loss, my aunt bought me a Jeep which eventually broke down as well, and then eventually I bought a reliable 2011 Nissan Altima.

Throughout this period my credit became progressively worse.  I ended up signing up for insurance through Esurance and had to pay a whopping monthly payment of $175!  It was insane!  I was paying that every single month for about two years.  During this period I just accepted the fact that I’d be paying about $175 per month.  After paying $175 per month for about 2.5 years, I ended up receiving a call from AllState.  They actually called me a few times and left messages but I never called them back because I figured that it’d be a typical sales call.

One day, it dawned upon me that I should just show them some courtesy and give them a call back since they were so persistent.  When I called them back, they ended up giving me a quote and said that they could bring my monthly payments down to $78 per month!  I was in absolute SHOCK!  I had no clue that a company could help lower my insurance by almost $100!  Needless to say, I ended up signing up with AllState and was a very happy man from that point forward!

The lesson here is to not give up shopping around for car insurance.  I urge EVERYONE to have insurance because it’s required by law, and even in some regions where it’s not required, it’s still a great idea to possess because we can’t predict the next time we’ll get in an accident.  If I had shopped around a bit more earlier, I could probably have saved hundreds of dollars.  I just got caught up in the same pattern that a lot of young people get caught up in, which is just paying the same monthly premium and being too lazy to look around.

I urge everyone to learn from my experience.  Get yourself some quality car insurance, pay your monthly payments, and then every 12 months or so, challenge yourself to look around and see how you can save some money.  You might just surprise yourself.

5 Tips to avoid a vehicle collision

Comments Off on 5 Tips to avoid a vehicle collision

Having the proper vehicle insurance while out on the road is an absolute must these days. You certainly don’t want to get caught with a massive liability claim.

However the very best case scenario is to avoid an accident in the first place. That way everyone stays safe and there’s no big hassles with repairs and insurance claims.

Here are five tips to stay safe on the road and avoid accidents:

1.           Slow down

Speed is probably the number one cause of traffic accidents and high speed makes the accident even more devastating. Keep to the posted limit on the road and follow the general speed of other cars. Driving more slowly gives you and the other drivers around you more time to react to a situation.

2.           Drive for the conditions

When the weather is bad or the roads are icy and slippery it may not be possible to even drive the speed limit. Always ensure you consider the road conditions and give yourself enough time to stop or react to other traffic. It can take two or three times as much distance to stop on a wet or icy road than under normal driving conditions.

3.           Drive with both hands on the wheel

avoiding accidents

Distracted driving is a major cause of accidents and it only takes a second of inattention to cause an accident. Today’s vehicles are often equipped with hands-free Bluetooth systems or you can buy after market devices. Even something as simple as drinking your coffee or your morning protein shake can be hazardous to your driving if you aren’t cautious. Wait until you are at a stop light or stopped in traffic to drink your beverage of choice.

4.           Use your signals

It’s important to warn other drivers of your impending actions and not make any sudden lane changes. They need time to react and that’s what your signal is for, after all. It’s also courteous and makes for a more enjoyable roadway for everyone.

5.           Keep your car maintained

Make sure your car is safe for the roadway. Check your tires for proper inflation, make sure your fluids are topped up and you have plenty of gas. Having to pull over on a busy roadway creates a hazard for everyone. Also make sure you can see properly. Keep your windshield clean and your wipers in good working order. If you live in a cold climate be sure your vehicle is properly warmed up before you start driving so your windows aren’t fogged up.

By following these tips you and everyone around you will have a safer trip on the roadways and avoid accidents.

If you still do end up having a collision make sure to call your insurance company right away so your claim gets opened and you avoid unnecessary delays in repairs and payments.

Your insurance company is on your side and is an excellent resource for helping you navigate your insurance claim every step of the way.

How to file a car insurance claim

Comments Off on How to file a car insurance claim

You are having a grand day when ….CRASH! You just got into a car accident. Thankfully everyone is insured and no one is hurt. Also everyone has auto insurance, which is a very good thing. If you want to get your car fixed and move on with your life you will need to file an insurance claim with your company and with the other parties insurance.

Filing a claim

   At the Accident Site

You need to make sure you get accurate information for your insurance so they can best help you. Here are a few things you need to get.

● Trade insurance information with anyone involved in the accident. Make sure that you take a picture of their card. You don’t want to be stuck with false information.
● Take pictures on the scene. Take picture of detailed damage on your car and theirs.
● Write down as much as you can remember. Names, street names, time, licence plates, any weather conditions and the state of traffic when the accident happened (slow, stop and go, normal)
● If you obtained any injuries make sure you report them. I knew someone who got hit in the head with a nutritional supplement bottle. He didn’t report the injury, but it caused him a lot of pain. The insurance can’t accurately help you if you don’t tell them what happened.
● If anyone witnessed the accident, and stuck around, ask them for their name and number so they can give an accurate account to the insurance companies.

Making a Claim

When it comes time to file the actual claim make sure you have the following things ready.

● The number or website url of your insurance.
● Date and time of the accident
● A description of what happened
● Location of the accident
● Driver’s license
● Vehicle registration
● Insurance card
● Policy number
● The other driver’s name, insurance, vehicle make and licence plate number
● Information from the witnesses – if they gave it
● Name of the police officer and the incident number – if you got it

Accidents are just that accidents and even if the other person might be at fault, you should still file a claim and report the accident. You want to make sure you protect your interests and the other driver might not have your best interests at heart.

Tips to help you decide which motorbike insurance is best for you.

Comments Off on Tips to help you decide which motorbike insurance is best for you.

Taking care of your safety

If you are a daily rider of your motorbike it is important to always stay alert while on the road. By riding safely you can maintain your record for safe driving. One way of staying alert on the road is to take some brain supplements such as Alpha Brain. You can read this Alpha Brain Review to find out more. By being a rider who considers safety first it will help you to maintain a good insurance record.

Why have insurance

It doesn’t matter if you are an experienced rider with many years of riding under your belt, or have just received your learner’s licence you should have the appropriate insurance to cover you for any accidents.

Insurance can cover for personal injury that you may cause to another person and can cover you for damage you might do to someone else’s property. Some insurers even give you the option to cover your helmet and leathers for damage, which is a nice extra to have.

Choosing your options

In the UK there are many options when it comes to choosing the right insurance company for your needs. There are even services such as MCN compare.com that help you save time and money by comparing quotes from the different insurance companies available.

Doing your own research

Motor Bikes

However if you would like to do your own research here are some tips to help you save some money. Make sure when you contact an insurance company that you ask if there are any discounts or saving because of any of the below points.
• you have a bike that has a low risk of being stolen
• you have taken an advanced rider training course
• you are a member of a club such as RAC
• you use your bike only on weekends
• you have a good insurance record
• you own your bike outright
• you garage your bike

It also pays to shop around because some times insurance companies will introduce a special deal to entice new customers.

Other things that are important to ask

If your bike is under a certain age do you get a replacement bike?
What about if someone else is riding it, are you still covered?
Is the insurance for the market value or an agreed value?
Are any modifications or accessories covered?

Find out what is not covered

For example you may not be covered if you or someone else:
• are over the legal alcohol limit while riding
• rides your bike without a licence
• damages the bike intentionally
• ride your bike unregistered

Riding your bike can offer you more than just getting you from A to B. You probably like the freedom and excitement of being on the road with just two wheels beneath you. However, just in case anything should happen when riding your pride and joy, it is even better to have peace of mind knowing that you are covered by insurance.

Buying your first car? Don’t forget insurance.

Comments Off on Buying your first car? Don’t forget insurance.

First Car

The second largest purchase that most people will make in their lifetime is their car. It is usually purchased at an early age and unlike houses where statistics shows people might change their house two or three times in their lifetime, cars can be changed up to 10 times if not more.

For this reason, it is well in the interest of a car owner to understand the intricacies of car insurance and why we need vehicle insurance in the first place.

The law requires every vehicle on the road be insured and there is a minimum standard of insurance each car is expected to have.

Compulsory insurance

This type of insurance covers the other car for any repair needed on the car and medical costs for any individual injured in an accident you were considered responsible for.

In the event that your car was damaged, or you were injured, then you will need to cover any expenses incurred out of your own pocket.

Other names for this type of insurance is third party insurance or compulsory third party insurance.

Comprehensive

The vast majority who have claimed on their car insurance at some time will be more familiar of the ins and outs of car insurance, yet for those purchasing a car for the first time, particularly if there are limited funds, find it hard to understand or appreciate why you need to take out comprehensive car insurance cover.

On the off chance that the car is involved in a mishap, it would need to be repaired. On the off chance that it is completely destroyed or stolen, it would also need to be replaced. In cases like this, if you do not have comprehensive insurance, you would have to make a very basic decision. Go out and purchase another car or manage without.

However in the event that you had the great sense to take out comprehensive cover, the insurance organisation will provide you with the financial capacity to go out and purchase a replacement.

Concern over the cost

Insurance premiums can seem extortionate and can be premiums are charged monthly, semi annually or annually.

For somebody purchasing their first car, getting any form of insurance policy seems like a considerable amount of cash and you may ask if it is really needed.

At the very least the compulsory insurance must be purchased and although getting comprehensive cover is a choice you ought to remember that comprehensive insurance can include as part of the cover a replacement vehicle while your own car is in the body shop for repairs or while you are looking for a replacement if your car has been stolen or regarded “aggregate misfortune” by your insurance organisations evaluators.

If cost is a true concern, consider speaking to the insurance company as they usually able to trim the fat around the insurance policy not by using fat burning pills like Phentemine, but by asking more detailed questions on how and what the vehicle would be used for.

Not having some form of insurance for you vehicle can be considered a false economy as the out of pocket expenditure if there is a mishap can add up quite quickly and can be significantly.
